ATMA Farmer Groups
Launched in 2005-06, Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Scheme aims at making extension system farmer driven and farmer accountable by way of new institutional arrangements for technology dissemination. ATMA acts a registered society in the respective States and encourages the farmers, farmer groups, Panchayat Raj Institutes, NGOs, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and other stakeholders at the district and village levels to be a part of this farmer-centred extension system. It offers technical advice and training on new practices and technologies to the farmers.
Pragati Abhiyan facilitates formation of farmer’s groups at village level linked with ATMA. This will eventually ensure their access to benefits from the agricultural department. Also, when rural producers are able to organise themselves, they also get access to up-to-date information for enhancing the production and reaching the markets.
